Hurricane Keratopathy in a 11 year-old Shih-Tzu.
An eleven year-old, spayed female Shih-Tzu was examined due to severe ocular pain in the right eye. A complete eye exam revealed a superficial traumatic ulcer and treatment indicated was topical antibiotics, autologous serum and artificial tears. Recheck was done 6 days later and healing process was considered normal. By the 12th day the cornea was totally healed and a cloudiness of the cornea was present (macula) and topical steroids plus artificial tears for 3 weeks were prescribed. After 4 weeks of the initial presentation a clockwise vortex (whorl pattern) was noticed on the central part of the cornea and a slight fluorescein uptake identified and a diagnosis of hurricane keratopathy made. This article was presented during 46th Annual Meeting of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, Coeur d Alene, ID October 7 to 10, 2015.
